A little bit more about Stanley Donwood

Stanley Donwood is an enigma. As the semi-official sixth member of Radiohead, his work on the group’s album and poster art has gained him worldwide recognition. Since 1994, having designed all artwork from the second album ‘The Bends’ onwards, his evocative and haunting imagery has helped to create one of music’s most distinctive brands.

In 2001, when Radiohead won a Grammy for the Special Edition of ‘Amnesiac’, this was due in large part to Donwood’s album cover. However, to this day, the man behind the artwork remains reluctant to relinquish his shadowy existence as Radiohead’s ‘back-room boy’. Despite his popularity as an artist, Donwood’s elusive nature has even led some to doubt his existence, asserting that the band’s artwork is actually created by frontman Thom Yorke.

In February 2009 Donwood won a Grammy of his own in the category Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package’ for his art direction on Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ album.
