Chris Kettle
Delusions of Grandeur

5 DECEMBER 2008 — 24 DECEMBER 2008

Delusions of Grandeur is a vision to behold. Like Christmas morning, the crunch of fresh snow underfoot, come enjoy the journey.

Chris has created a show that takes us from the comfortable genre of a still life setting and beckons us in to each painting using abstract elements, strange, spacey visions that you just want to reach out and touch - and a nod to the future with graphic lines that snap you out of the willing suspension of disbelief. Large works explore new spaces and smaller studies like edited snippets from his world.

Chris Kettle's still life still veers towards the darker stuff, but where previous works this year have been based on the spiritual and religious elements of still life and his Dutch Master's inference, this year we see little objects and arrangements, sometimes odd, but all have Chris's telltale, hallmark ethereal quality. There's a glory to the new work and then there's also the polar opposite to that, too. He uses varnish for the first time, with layers and drips you only discover when you get up close and personal.

Chris Kettle has gone on a new journey with his new work for Ink_d. He last showed at the gallery in 2007 and this year has had work in Switzerland, Newcastle and London with plans for a show in the U.A.E in September 2009. Who knows where the oils will take him next?
